研究興趣:

血管新生(Angiogenesis)與胚胎的發育、傷口的癒合、和女性的月經週期等生理過程有關。這整個血管新生的過程會受到血管新生抑制與促進劑之間劑量的抗衡所調控,當這個蹺蹺板關係失去控制,將會導致許多病變如腫瘤的生長與蔓延。自1972年以來,雖然有許多的臨床前實驗證明血管新生和惡性腫瘤的發生和轉移有著密不可分的關係;但截至目前為止幾種已上市的抗血管新生的藥物在癌症治療時並不如預期。部分原因是使用血管新生抑制療法,會促成腫瘤惡性度增加的風險;除了新生的血管,還發現腫瘤微環境中的浸潤發炎細胞與纖維母細胞可以透過自泌與旁泌與癌細胞交互作用促成腫瘤生長與器官特異性的轉移。最近幾年更發現微生物菌可以間接或直接參與癌症的生成,甚至影響癌症治療的療效。目前實驗室的研究方向包括: 1)口腔癌與食道癌於過去幾年分別躍居國人十大癌症死因的第五與第八位,因其致病與轉移機轉仍不清楚;透過與臨床醫師合作,利用細胞、分子生物與基因體的技術及動物實驗,探討腫瘤微環境的微生物菌相、浸潤的發炎細胞與血管新生在口腔黏膜上皮細胞癌化所扮演的角色。2)因癌症廣泛被認為是無法癒合的傷口,利用基因轉殖鼠作皮膚疾病模式探討該基因於皮膚傷口癒合的角色與藥物開發的潛力。
